Lewis Hamilton has called to "free Congo, Sudan, Syria and Palestine" while discussing Formula One's return to Africa.
The sport announced last week that a purpose-built circuit in Bugesera, 25 miles south of Rwanda's capital, Kigali, will be built, with a Grand Prix on the continent being rolled out in the 2030s.
DR Congo said Rwanda had sent forces and supported armed groups in unlawful military operations on its territory following the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
Hamilton, who has been leading calls for the sport to return to Africa, appeared to have mixed emotions and recognised criticisms surrounding having a Grand Prix in Rwanda.
Speaking ahead of the US Grand Prix, he said: "Of course I don't get to choose where we go and naturally there's problems all over the world today.
"There's a lot that we don't know. Growing up in England, they never ever taught us anything about Africa.
