Xabi Alonso has given the latest update on his Chelsea squad ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash. The Blues host London rivals Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

Chelsea go into the match off the back of a 2-0 win over Everton in their last outing. But that game did bring a big injury blow, with goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez stretchered off after a head collision with Jarred Branthwaite.

He was taken to hospital for checks and underwent surgery for a fractured jaw. He is now beginning his recovery, but is expected to be on the sidelines for a few more weeks.

Chelsea sit in fourth place in the Premier League table, three points behind Brighton in third and one ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool. They will be looking to extend their brilliant home record against Spurs.

Ahead of the game, here is a look at the latest news from the Chelsea treatment room.

Emiliano Martinez

Injury: Jaw

The goalkeeper underwent surgery on a fractured jaw suffered during last week’s Premier League clash vs Everton.

What Alonso has said: "He's doing better. He had the surgery. Day by day, he's feeling better, but we still need to wait.

"Few weeks, few weeks. Hopefully less than more, but we need to wait. The good thing is that he's feeling better. He wants to listen to his feelings, the opinion of the doctors, the specialists, the surgeons. Considering it was a bad one, he's been good."

Possible return date: Unknown

Malo Gusto

Reason for absence: Illness

The full-back missed the clash against Everton due to illness, but is set to return to the squad.

What Alonso has said: "Malo is fine."

Possible return date: Vs Tottenham (H) - Sat 24 Oct

Emmanuel Emegha

Injury: Hamstring

The Dutchman is still waiting to make his competitive debut for the club.

What Alonso has said: "He's feeling better, but we need to wait."

Possible return date: Vs Tottenham (H) - Sat 24 Oct

Reece James

Injury: Knee

The club captain has undergone surgery on a knee injury, which is expected to rule him out for around three months.

What Alonso has said: "We are all disappointed... He wanted to have a good start after the break, but in the last training session he picked up an injury. We wanted to be cautious and wait for the [test] result. Now, the surgery has been successful... we wish him a great recovery, and while we don’t set timelines, he will be out for several weeks." (Oct 16)

Possible return date: January

Jamie Gittens

Injury: Ankle

The winger suffered the injury while in action for England U21s during the international break.

What Alonso has said: "Not yet, it’s still a few weeks." (Oct 16)

Possible return date: Unknown
