Dunfermline Abbey Football Club (DAFC) has officially been unveiled, with the new side taking its name and identity from the historic Abbey at the heart of the city.
The club's story will begin with a 2017 age group, but those behind it already have ambitions to grow and create more opportunities for youngsters across the area and surrounding communities.
Announcing its launch on Facebook, the club said it had been created "with the future of its young people in mind" and hoped to become a football club the city could be proud of for generations.
It said: "With the kind permission and support of Historic Environment Scotland, Provost of Fife Jim Leishman MBE and the Abbey Church Elders Committee, we are honoured to carry the Dunfermline Abbey name into grassroots football."
Participation, wellbeing and community will form the three central principles as DAFC looks to establish itself.
Explaining the thinking behind the project, the club said: "Our purpose is to create accessible opportunities for children across Dunfermline and the surrounding communities to get active, enjoy football and experience everything that being part of a team can bring.
"We want to help young people play, develop, build confidence, make friendships and feel part of something."
The participation strand will focus on creating opportunities for local children to play football, while wellbeing will centre on physical health, confidence and positive mental wellbeing through sport.
The club also wants to build a welcoming and inclusive community with a strong connection to the area it represents.
It concluded: "From the historic heart of Dunfermline, a new club is born."
