The Runnin’ Bulldogs finished last season as one of the worst teams in the country with a 4-29 record in Jeremy Luther’s second season. He loses three starters to the transfer portal but added seven players out of the portal and signed four freshmen.

Junior guard Jacob Hudson is the leading returning scorer, averaging 10.7 points, four rebounds and 1.7 assists last season. In addition to UConn, Gardner-Webb faces other power conference teams including Texas, South Carlina, Wake Forest, Georgia and Kentucky.

UConn:

The Huskies return to the court after a 34-6 season, ending in the national championship game in a loss to Michigan. Dan Hurley has made three of the last four national title games, proving to be one of the best coaches of his time with an already hall-of-fame resume.

Program veteran Alex Karaban graduated, while Taris Reed went to the pros. Returning is point man Silas Demary Jr. and sharpshooter Braylon Mullins. Solo Ball would round out a dynamic trio, but a wrist injury will keep him sidelined for the entire season.

UConn brought in seven transfers to replace its losses, headlined by former Duke forward Nik Khamenia and Najai Hines (Seton Hall).

Oskar Giltay (Stanford) projects to start at center and top-30 recruit Colben Landrew started in the Huskies scrimmage against Syracuse.
