Major update on Hull City striker emerges after significant injury concern

City were fearing the worst over the weekend

Robinio Vaz limped out of Saturday's defeat at Fulham

Robinio Vaz returned to training on Tuesday morning after showing no lasting signs of the tackle he was on the wrong end of at Fulham on Saturday.

Vaz was tackled from behind in the 93rd minute by Ryan Sessegnon, with the Fulham man raking his studs down the back of his Achilles. Sessegnon was sent off, with City head coach Sergej Jakirovic saying after the game that it looked like a ‘bad one’ and was really concerned given the loanee was unable to walk afterwards.

The 19-year-old went for an MRI scan, which thankfully came back clear, and the teenager was able to return to training. The boost comes as a timely moment for City, who are reeling after their disappointing 1-0 loss at Craven Cottage, and ahead of their important home meeting with the Bees in front of the television cameras on Sunday afternoon.

Sessegnon apologised to Vaz for the challenge after Saturday's encounter, which saw the Tigers beaten for the second consecutive away game in the Premier League.

There was further good news with Mohamed-Ali Cho and Lucas Gourna-Douath returning to training after missing games with Everton and the Cottagers.

Cho and Gourna-Douath have been sidelined with their respective issues, and their return to fitness will provide Jakirovic with a timely boost for the first of two significant home games in the next week.

Plans to face Lincoln City in a behind-closed-doors game were thwarted, however, after the Imps pulled the plug on the contest that was scheduled to take place on Tuesday at the Tigers' training ground.

The club had arranged the contest against Championship opposition in a bid to give valuable minutes to the likes of Tim Iroegbunam, Hidemasa Morita and Christos Mouzakitis.

Boss Jakirovic will give a full update on the club's injury situation when he addresses the media on Friday afternoon at City's training ground in Cottingham.
