Texas A&M volleyball freshman libero Gabi Rodriguez continues to make an immediate impact in her first collegiate season, adding a program record to her growing list of accomplishments.
During the No. 17 Aggies' four-set loss to No. 21 Vanderbilt on Friday, Rodriguez became the fastest freshman in Texas A&M history to reach 300 career digs, accomplishing the milestone in just 24 matches. The milestone highlights Rodriguez's back-row consistency throughout the 2026 season. She recorded 14 digs against Vanderbilt, helping Texas A&M remain competitive in a matchup that featured several extended rallies and momentum swings.
Following the match, the Texas A&M volleyball social media account celebrated Rodriguez's achievement with a graphic highlighting her place in program history. Rodriguez has established herself as an important part of head coach Jamie Morrison's rotation, providing defensive stability and helping the Aggies transition from defense to offense. Her ability to keep difficult attacks in play has been valuable against SEC competition.
The freshman's accomplishment came during a challenging stretch for Texas A&M, which has dropped consecutive conference matches against Texas and Vanderbilt after previously recording impressive victories over Kentucky and Tennessee.
Despite Friday's 3-1 defeat, Rodriguez's milestone offers another encouraging development for a program that continues to build around talented young players.
The Aggies (14-10, 7-5 SEC) will look to return to the win column Sunday when they travel to Missouri for a 2 p.m. CT matchup on SEC Network+.
