Tottenham have reportedly issued a formal complaint to the Premier League after a TV correspondent was filmed leading anti-Spurs chants with Arsenal fans.

News broke on Friday that the Lilywhites had lodged a grievance regarding a video of Joao Castelo-Branco, who works for ESPN Brazil in the UK and is the son of the channel's co-founder, Jose Trajano.

Spurs took issue with the fact that, in the footage, Castelo-Branco, whose affinity for the rival Gunners is well known, appeared to join profane chants directed at them. The scene took place in Sao Paulo whilst members of an Arsenal supporters' group watched a match.

Tottenham have reportedly made the point that whilst they do not wish for ESPN Brazil to stop broadcasting their games, they do not believe Castelo-Branco should be the reporter assigned to cover them. The specific details about what was seemingly said have also come to light.

Castelo-Branco was filmed leading chants amongst Arsenal fans that dubbed Tottenham "s**t." Another chant is said to have vocalised how much those singing "hate" Spurs.

One source told The Times that the club have been left in shock by the video, which was described as "incredible." Castelo-Branco, who has been based in London for decades, soon deleted it.

However, Spurs have requested that Castelo-Branco not cover any of their games in the future and that he not interview any of their players or manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Talks are reportedly ongoing and the Premier League is actively mediating between Tottenham and ESPN, treating the matter as an internal accreditation issue. Castelo-Branco took part in a joint virtual meeting with the league and the network. The Arsenal supporter has since issued an apology and emailed this to Tottenham directly.

He said: "I wanted to apologise to the club for the video I recorded with Arsenal fans in Brazil singing a derogatory chant about Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

"Given my role as a correspondent in the UK, I feel I made a mistake. The video was posted on the podcast Instagram page and reproduced on my personal page. I understand it can be offensive to Spurs and Spurs fans and I should have thought more about singing that and the reach it could have.

"ESPN was notified by the Premier League about Tottenham seeing and disliking the post and we agreed to delete it. Hopefully we can move on and I will rethink and be more careful with the boundaries of having that persona on the podcast."

Spurs are thought to be considering this apology during the international break ahead of their upcoming home game against Ipswich Town on November 21.
