Arsenal Eye £40m Striker: Would He Suit Arteta’s Attack?
Arsenal flag graphic

Arsenal’s attacking plans under Mikel Arteta depend on more than goals alone. The manager expects his forwards to press from the front, combine with midfield runners and create space for teammates through intelligent movement. That balance becomes especially important during a season when the Gunners must manage domestic competition alongside the Champions League.

Kai Havertz offers tactical flexibility through his ability to drop into midfield.Viktor Gyökeres adds another option as Arsenal continue to develop their attacking combinations. However, a long campaign can expose weaknesses in depth, particularly if injuries or inconsistent finishing affect the frontline.

Across Europe, several clubs have begun monitoring young forwards who could strengthen their attacks. Club Brugge have one such player in Nicolò Tresoldi, whose scoring record has attracted attention during an impressive start to the 2026/27 season.

According to TEAMtalk, virtually every major European club has watched the 22-year-old, although Brugge have no intention of letting him leave in January. A source at the Belgian club reportedly confirmed their position, while the reportindicates that Tresoldi feels comfortable staying in Belgium. Arsenal’s interest must therefore be viewed in the context of a difficult potential negotiation, rather than an imminent transfer.

The German youth international has scored eight goals in 11 appearances across all competitions, according to the supplied season figures. He has registered four goals in eight Belgian Pro League matches and another four in three Champions League outings, including a hat-trick against Inter Milan. He has yet to record an assist.

Arsenal transfer news: Should Arsenal pursue Tresoldi despite Brugge’s January stance?

Tresoldi’s finishing makes him an appealing prospect, but Arsenal must decide whether his strengths justify a major investment. Reports suggest Brugge could demand a club-record fee, although no confirmed asking price or weekly wage has emerged. Any transfer estimate should therefore remain provisional.

In my view, Arsenal should resist an expensive January move unless their attacking needs change. Tresoldi looks like a natural penalty-box striker, with his goals suggesting a sharp instinct for finding scoring positions. Arteta, however, often asks his central forwards to link play, create space for wide attackers and lead an organised press.

That difference is important. Havertz already offers those connections, while Gyökeres gives Arsenal another central option. Paying a premium for Tresoldi could leave limited room for improvements elsewhere, including the wings or midfield.

Brugge’s reluctance to sell strengthens their negotiating position, and the player’s willingness to stay removes any obvious pressure for a move. Arsenal should keep monitoring his progress, but a January bid would make little sense without a clear plan for his minutes and role.
