After an emotional 19-15 win over the NFC North-leading Minnesota Vikings (6-1) on Sunday, CBS Sports provided its grade for the Detroit Lions' (5-2) performance.
While the matchup was the heavyweight tilt it was expected to be between the Lions' high-powered offense and the Vikings' stout defense, Detroit prevailed through a hard-nosed run game, constant quarterback pressure, and impressive pass defense.
Based on Detroit's performance, John Breech of CBS Sports gave the Lions a "B+" for the game. Here is what he had to say:
"The Vikings have the best defense in the NFL, but Jahmyr Gibbs made the unit look mortal. The Lions superstar running back rushed for 153 yards, with 63 of those coming during a pivotal fourth quarter where the Lions scored a go-ahead TD. The Lions beleaguered pass defense had its best game of the year. Kyler Murray was under constant pressure, and that led to three sacks and a clutch second-quarter interception from D.J. Reed that seemed to flip the momentum in the game. The Lions took a page out of Minnesota's playbook and won a game by playing great defense. If Detroit's defense looks even remotely like this going forward, the Lions could soon be back on top of the NFC North."
Up next for Detroit will be a trip to Hard Rock Stadium in Coral Gables, Fla., on Sunday, Nov. 8, to take on the Miami Dolphins (1-6). That game is set to kick off at 1 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on CBS.
