Martin O’Neill has addressed his unchanged Celtic starting XI for this evening’s clash with Dundee United.
The Celtic boss has stuck with the line-up which claimed a hard-fought 2-1 win over Hibs in Edinburgh last weekend, having described the result as the team’s “best win of the season.”
Conditions were far from ideal at Easter Road, but they’re back resembling some sort of normality in Glasgow tonight.
However, after facing the Premiership’s bottom side on Sunday, it’s a tougher task for O’Neill’s side this time around with the Tangerines unbeaten in their last five.
Asked if the game was a chance to take things into another gear this evening, O’Neill told CelticPlayer: “It would be nice to think so.
“We’ve went with the same starting line-up and just one change in the subs. And I think tonight’s a different set of circumstances, but hopefully the performance is something we really want to get a proper grip on.”
He continued when asked if he wanted a repeat of the start in the recent 7-1 demolition of Hearts: “I’d like to do that. I’d like to start, as I always say, on the front foot. That’s an old footballing phrase, but that’s really what we want to do.
“We want to try and get a grip of the game if we can. Dundee United themselves had a really great victory at the weekend, and they’ll be difficult opposition. They can definitely play.”
Finally, he was asked about the confidence United will have given their unbeaten run, and whether he will have to guard against over-confidence in his own side.
The Parkhead boss said: “I don’t think we have to guard about over-confidence. I don’t think we can treat anybody lightly, we certainly [don’t do] that, and Dundee United would certainly come into that category as well, too.
“A difficult game for us ahead. We want to start on the front foot, we want to be really, really strong. We want to give the fans something to really cheer about.”
