Exmouth Town lose to Plymouth Parkway and Hungerford

Last Tuesday Town exited from the St. Luke's Bowl, beaten 3-1 at Plymouth Parkway, who are riding high in the Southern League Premier Division and have reached the first round proper of the FA Cup.

Having withstood early pressure, Town opened the scoring when Ben Steer was brought down and Tom Chastey converted the resulting penalty.

Parkway soon equalised and took the lead early in the second half, but Town stuck to their task and were unlucky when Ace High saw his header cleared off the line.

Minutes later a wonder strike found the top corner as Parkway doubled their lead and went on to victory.

With players unavailable due to the weddings of Ollie Knowles and ex-player Robbie Powell, and the continued absence due to injury of Ross Edwards and Louis Morison, Town travelled to promotion-seeking Hungerford Town with just thirteen players, and their troubles increased when Iestyn Harris suffered a migraine before kick-off, and Alex Cairo sustained a back injury after twenty-five minutes.

By then Town were three goals down following three superb moves and excellent finishing, but Town could have equalised after the first goal when Owen Johnson saw his effort saved.

A tweak in the playing formation saw Town provide more of a challenge, and a superb strike from the edge of the penalty area by Callum Shipton on thirty-two minutes reduced the arrears.

Town continued to press at the start of the second half and were unlucky when Aarron Denny saw his strike hit the underside of the crossbar before being cleared, but two late strikes saw Hungerford run out comfortable winners.

Exmouth are in action this evening (Wednesday) when Barnstaple Town are the visitors (kick off 7.45pm) with Town looking to complete the double over their North Devon rivals having won the reverse fixture 2-1.

On Saturday Town will make their first visit to Worcester Raiders who gained promotion via the Hellenic League play-offs.

They are currently eighth in the table with five wins and six draws from their fifteen matches played whilst Town are sixteenth, seven points behind but with four games in hand.

Last Saturday the Raiders came from a goal down to beat Barnstaple 2-1.
