The New York Giants will travel to Philadelphia on Sunday to face the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field, a venue where they have not secured a win since 2013. The Giants opened as slight road favorites, marking the first time they have held that distinction in Philadelphia since 2009.
As they prepare for their first meeting with the Eagles this season, the focus remains on securing a win this weekend rather than placing undue emphasis on ending the streak.
First-year Giant Isaiah Likely was asked about the possibility of snapping the drought and emphasized that the team’s approach is consistent from week to week.
“I feel like every win should be the team’s mindset, whether you haven’t won in Philly in 13 years or whether we beat the opponent earlier this year and have to play them again,” Likely told reporters on Thursday. “Every week should be about trying to finish 1-0, whatever the record was in the past. I wasn’t here 13 years ago, so my mentality is winning the game at hand.”
Head coach John Harbaugh, who has experience on the other side of the Giants-Eagles rivalry, showed respect for the opponent while downplaying the significance of the inherited road losing streak.
While some of the newcomers may not have been fully aware of the history the Giants are hoping to overcome, they will understand the intensity of the rivalry after Sunday’s game, particularly with the contest being played in Philadelphia.
Likely has been a key contributor to the Giants’ success this season, drawing targets early and often. As he experiences the rivalry for the first time, his focus remains squarely on winning the game on Sunday.
