Barcelona midfielder Fermín López has rejected speculation that he could leave the club for Manchester United, declaring his desire to spend the remainder of his playing career at Camp Nou. The 23-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs after delivering impressive performances under manager Hansi Flick, with the Premier League side reportedly among those keeping track of his situation.
Speaking to reporters following Barcelona’s 6-1 win over Deportivo Alavés, the Spanish midfielder played down the transfer rumours and stressed that his priority remains staying with the Catalan giants.
“I don't pay attention to this kind of news. I want to stay at Barcelona for as long as possible, and I hope to finish my career at this club,” he said, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has also dismissed suggestions that López could move to England, explaining that Barcelona regard him as a central figure in their current squad and future plans.
Romano stated that the club and people close to the player had played down reports of a possible Premier League transfer. He added that López is settled in Barcelona and recently committed his future by signing a new contract.
The journalist also highlighted sporting director Deco’s confidence in the midfielder, noting that he is considered an important part of the club’s long-term project. Consequently, Barcelona have no intention of allowing him to depart for the Premier League.
López’s contribution this season has reinforced his growing importance to Flick’s side. He has featured 13 times across all competitions, recording six goals and six assists, numbers that underline his influence in Barcelona’s attacking play.
Manchester United’s interest reportedly became public after Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto disclosed that the English club had made enquiries about López and Atlético Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios.
United are assessing midfield options as they attempt to address weaknesses exposed during a difficult opening to the 2026/27 season. The Red Devils have collected only seven points from their first nine league matches, leaving them just above the relegation zone.
However, López’s public commitment to Barcelona, combined with the club’s position on his future, makes a move to Old Trafford appear unlikely at this stage.
