According to a report by Kessben TV, on Wednesday October 21, 2027 Ghana’s national under-17 football team, the Black Starlets, have suffered a major setback after losing to Ivory Coast, a result that has ended their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The defeat is a disappointing outcome for the young Ghanaian side, which had been seeking to secure a place at the continental tournament and represent the country among Africa’s leading youth football teams.
The Black Starlets went into the decisive encounter hoping to overcome their Ivorian opponents and keep their qualification ambitions alive. However, the result went against Ghana, leaving the team unable to secure the ticket needed to participate in the 2027 competition.
The failure to qualify will be a bitter disappointment for the players, technical team and Ghanaian football supporters, who had hoped to see the country’s junior national team return to the continental stage and compete for honours.
The Black Starlets have a rich history in youth football, having established Ghana as one of the traditional forces in the African and global under-17 game. Their past achievements have created high expectations whenever the team embarks on a qualification campaign.
Consequently, missing out on the 2027 U-17 AFCON represents a setback for Ghana’s youth football development efforts, particularly at a time when the country continues to look to its young talents as an important source of future players for the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The defeat to Ivory Coast also highlights the growing competition among West African countries for places at major youth tournaments.
With several nations investing in the development of young footballers, qualification campaigns have become increasingly challenging, leaving little room for costly mistakes.
For Ghana, the immediate disappointment will likely lead to questions about the team’s preparation, performance and the areas that require improvement before future competitions.
The Black Starlets will now have to redirect their attention towards rebuilding and preparing for upcoming assignments, with the aim of learning from the experience and strengthening the team for future qualification campaigns.
Although the loss has brought their hopes of participating in the 2027 U-17 AFCON to an end, the setback could serve as an opportunity for the Ghana Football Association and the technical team to assess the state of youth football and identify measures to improve the country’s competitiveness.
For now, Ghanaian football fans will have to come to terms with the disappointing news that the Black Starlets will not be part of the 2027 continental tournament following their defeat to Ivory Coast.
