Thierry Henry Suggests Mikel Arteta is Actually Making One Arsenal Player Look Worse

According to a report by Football London on Thursday, October 22, 2026, former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has defended Bukayo Saka against criticism, arguing that the winger's performances are influenced by Mikel Arteta's tactical demands at the North London club.

Speaking on CBS Sports, Henry expressed frustration with the constant questions about Saka's form and the high expectations placed on the England international.

Henry insisted that there was nothing wrong with Saka's performances and suggested that people were overlooking his contributions because they expected him to produce more goals and assists.

The former Arsenal captain also compared Saka's record with that of former Manchester United winger David Beckham, highlighting how both players have contributed to their teams in different ways.

Henry acknowledged that Beckham had impressive numbers but pointed out that the former England captain played alongside prolific forwards such as Dwight Yorke and Ruud van Nistelrooy at Manchester United.

He also praised Saka's performances for England, highlighting the winger's goals and assists during his international career. According to Henry, the criticism comes partly from the high standards set by modern football stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Henry believes Arsenal's playing style under Arteta has also affected Saka's attacking freedom. He explained that the team previously played with a more fluid approach, allowing the winger greater opportunities to express himself in the final third.

“It's not the same Bukayo that we see with England, and we saw playing for Arsenal two and a half years ago,” Henry said.

The Frenchman argued that Saka has different responsibilities at club and international level, meaning his performances should not be judged without considering the tactical instructions he receives.

Henry also noted that Saka has already won trophies with Arsenal and continues to play an important role for England.

Arteta has previously challenged the winger to improve his attacking output, and Saka has responded with four goals this season. However, Arsenal will be hoping his injury does not affect his progress or limit his contributions in the coming weeks.
