Real Madrid youngster Franco Mastantuono has earned another opportunity to represent Argentina after being included in Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the November international break. His selection follows a series of encouraging performances for Fiorentina, where the teenager has made significant progress since joining the Italian club on loan.
According to a report by Madrid Universal on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the 19-year-old has impressed sufficiently to attract the national team manager’s attention ahead of Argentina’s upcoming fixtures against Uruguay and Costa Rica.
Real Madrid sent Mastantuono to Fiorentina during the summer transfer window to provide him with regular first-team football and accelerate his development. The Spanish giants believed that experiencing a different football environment would help him adapt to European competition and improve his prospects of becoming an established senior player.
Although he demonstrated considerable potential during his first season, the Argentine initially struggled to settle in Spain. His transition to Italian football also required patience, but his performances have gradually improved, allowing him to establish a more significant role at Fiorentina.
His recent display against Sassuolo proved particularly important in strengthening his international prospects. Mastantuono found the net and contributed effectively in several areas, showing improvements in both his attacking influence and defensive work.
Beyond scoring, the teenager completed three successful dribbles, won six duels and recorded six recoveries. His ability to contribute without possession, while also creating problems for opposition defenders, demonstrated the progress he has made during his loan spell.
The goal against Sassuolo also took his Serie A tally to four in ten appearances. For a young player still adapting to Italian football, that return represents an encouraging achievement. He has reportedly become the second-youngest player to score four times in the competition during his first ten appearances.
His growing confidence has been evident in recent matches, with the midfielder becoming increasingly influential in attacking situations. These improvements are precisely what Real Madrid hoped to achieve when they arranged his temporary departure to Fiorentina.
Mastantuono will now have the opportunity to translate his club performances into contributions for Argentina. The national team, which finished as runners-up at the previous World Cup, will face Uruguay on November 13 before taking on Costa Rica the following day. His latest selection follows his return to the international setup in September.
Competition for attacking positions in the Argentina squad remains intense, particularly with other emerging talents such as Nico Paz also seeking opportunities. Nevertheless, Mastantuono's performances in Italy have strengthened his position as a player capable of contributing to the country's future plans.
With Lionel Messi approaching the later stages of his international career, Scaloni is also assessing younger options who could become important members of the next generation. Maintaining his current form will be essential if Mastantuono hopes to secure more regular international appearances.
His longer-term position at Real Madrid remains uncertain, particularly with Mourinho having several attacking options available. Had he remained in Spain this season, opportunities for consistent football might have been limited.
For now, the teenager's priority will be to make the most of his international opportunity while continuing his development at Fiorentina. Strong performances could improve both his standing with Argentina and his future prospects at Real Madrid.
