According to a report by CaughtOffside on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Liverpool are increasingly considering a permanent deal for Ronald Araujo after the defender impressed following his arrival at Anfield on loan from Barcelona.
The Reds are reportedly ready to trigger the €55 million (£46 million to £47 million) purchase option included in the agreement if the Uruguay international maintains his current form throughout the season.
Araujo joined Liverpool on a season-long loan during the summer, with the deal allowing the Premier League side to sign him permanently at the end of the campaign.
Although the 27-year-old is primarily a centre-back, he has quickly become the club’s preferred option at right-back, offering defensive stability, aerial strength and versatility. His 10 appearances so far have helped him settle into English football and strengthened the case for Liverpool to make his move permanent.
According to the report, Spanish newspaper Marca has indicated that Liverpool are prepared to exercise the purchase option if Araujo continues performing at his current level. Football Insider has also reported that the club intends to monitor his progress before making a final decision later in the season.
Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has been impressed by the defender’s attitude and willingness to adapt to the team’s needs.
Speaking in September, Iraola said: "I like his spirit. I’m very happy for him."
The manager has also praised Araujo’s physical qualities and flexibility, which have enabled him to perform at right-back while remaining an option in his preferred central defensive position.
However, Liverpool must carefully consider the financial implications of completing the transfer. Araujo turns 28 in March, meaning a fee approaching £47 million would represent a substantial investment in a player entering his prime years.
His wages could further increase the overall cost, particularly as the club seeks to balance its immediate squad needs with its long-term recruitment plans.
Despite the financial considerations, Araujo’s early performances have reduced the uncertainty that often comes with signing a player who still needs time to adapt to the Premier League.
If he maintains his current level, Liverpool could conclude that securing an established performer is a better option than searching the transfer market for an alternative.
