Ghanaian defender Maxwell Woledzi has received another major recognition in his football career after being named Nashville SC's Defensive Player of the Year following an impressive 2026 season.

The award is a testament to the defender's consistency, commitment and important contributions to the American Major League Soccer (MLS) side. Woledzi has enjoyed an outstanding campaign, establishing himself as one of the key figures in Nashville SC's defensive department.

The Ghanaian has played an important role in the club's remarkable achievements this season, particularly their historic success in the MLS Supporters' Shield competition. Nashville SC secured their first-ever Supporters' Shield, marking a significant milestone in the club's history.

The Supporters' Shield is awarded to the team that finishes the regular MLS season with the highest number of points. Winning the prestigious honour requires consistency throughout the campaign, and Nashville SC's achievement reflects the quality and determination within their squad.

Woledzi's contribution to this historic accomplishment cannot be overlooked. As a defender, his responsibilities go beyond making tackles and clearing dangerous balls. He has also been expected to provide leadership, maintain defensive organisation and help his teammates deal with difficult situations during matches.

His performances have earned him recognition from the club, with the Defensive Player of the Year award serving as a reward for his efforts throughout the season.

The achievement is also encouraging news for Ghanaian football, as Woledzi continues to make his mark outside the country. Ghanaian players have been representing the nation in different leagues around the world, and seeing the defender receive individual recognition in the MLS is another positive development.

Nashville SC's historic Supporters' Shield triumph has further increased the importance of the award, considering the defender's role in a team that has maintained an impressive level of consistency.

With the club continuing to lead the league standings, attention will now turn to how far they can go in the MLS postseason.

For Maxwell Woledzi, however, this individual recognition is already a significant achievement. The Ghanaian defender will be hoping to maintain his excellent performances and continue building his reputation as one of the dependable defensive players in American football.

His latest award is certainly a proud moment for Ghanaian football supporters.
