According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has explained several factors behind his team’s 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter.
The German tactician admitted that his players failed to perform at their best and acknowledged the disappointment of losing an important European fixture.
Speaking after the match, Flick said Barcelona played below their usual level and admitted that he struggled to explain some of the mistakes that contributed to their defeat.
He pointed to the demanding schedule, explaining that the team had played several matches within a short period, leaving the players physically drained. He also suggested that their busy schedule affected their performance, particularly in the final third, where they struggled to make the most of their opportunities.
However, Flick insisted that fatigue should not be used as an excuse for the defeat. He acknowledged that tiredness could influence decision making and lead to costly mistakes during important matches.
The Barcelona manager also revealed that the team’s preparations had been disrupted by their weekend trip to Seville. Unpredictable weather conditions reportedly forced the squad to remain on the road for an additional night, affecting their preparations for the PSG encounter.
Flick believed the circumstances had affected the players’ energy levels, particularly during the second half, when Barcelona struggled to respond effectively to their opponents.
Despite the disappointing result, the German coach acknowledged that supporters had every reason to be frustrated with the team’s performance. He urged his players to learn from the defeat and remain focused on their remaining objectives.
Flick stressed that the Champions League campaign requires consistency and determination, adding that Barcelona must analyse their mistakes to avoid repeating them in future matches.
The Catalan club now face another important challenge as they prepare for Sunday’s meeting with their arch-rivals at Camp Nou. Flick will hope his players respond positively and return to winning ways as they continue their pursuit of domestic success.
