Barcelona midfielder Fermín López has dismissed speculation connecting him with a possible transfer to Manchester United, making it clear that he wants to remain at the Catalan club for the rest of his playing career. According to footballTransfers on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the 23-year-old has indicated that leaving Barcelona is not part of his immediate plans.
Manchester United have reportedly been monitoring López as they assess potential midfield reinforcements for future transfer windows. Chelsea have also been associated with the Spain international, having previously explored the possibility of signing him.
Despite the reported interest, Barcelona are understood to be unwilling to sanction his departure. López’s latest comments have further suggested that he shares the club’s desire to continue their relationship.
Speaking after Barcelona’s emphatic 6-1 victory over Alavés, the midfielder was questioned about reports linking him with United. He responded by saying he does not concern himself with transfer speculation.
López also expressed his desire to remain at Barcelona for as long as possible, adding that he hopes to complete his career at the club and eventually retire wearing its shirt. His statement represents a clear indication of his commitment to the team where he has continued to develop as a senior player.
The midfielder has enjoyed an impressive beginning to the current campaign, registering six goals and six assists in 13 appearances across all competitions. His performances have contributed to a significant increase in his estimated transfer valuation, which has reportedly reached €116.5 million.
While Manchester United’s chances of signing López appear limited, the club are expected to explore several areas of their squad during the next transfer window. Strengthening the left-back and centre-back positions is reportedly among their recruitment priorities.
Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall remains a major target despite recently committing his future to the club by signing an improved contract. United have also been linked with Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde, whose opportunities in the starting lineup have reportedly been restricted this season.
At centre-back, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite continues to feature among the players associated with a potential move to Old Trafford. United are reportedly considering defensive reinforcements as they prepare for the possibility of Lisandro Martínez leaving in 2027.
The club could also strengthen its attacking options by bringing in another striker. Club Brugge forward Nicolò Tresoldi has emerged as a possible candidate after making an encouraging start to the season, scoring 13 goals in his first 15 appearances.
Although López is unlikely to become an easy transfer target given his commitment to Barcelona and the club’s position, United’s wider recruitment plans suggest they will continue assessing several players as they prepare for future squad changes.
