Arsenal Step Up Pursuit Of Striker As €80m Man Utd Target Earns Maradona Comparison

Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their interest in Monza striker Gustavo Varela, while Manchester United target Nico Paz has attracted attention following comparisons with Argentine football legend Diego Maradona.

According to a report by FootballTransfers on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Arsenal are making moves to sign Varela as they explore potential attacking reinforcements ahead of a possible striker transfer.

The Monza forward has emerged as a player attracting the Gunners' attention as they assess their options. However, the report did not confirm whether Arsenal have submitted a formal bid or reached an agreement with the Italian club.

The interest comes as Arsenal continue to consider ways to strengthen Mikel Arteta's squad and improve their attacking options for the future.

Meanwhile, Paz has reportedly been valued at €80 million following another impressive performance for Como in Italy. The Argentine midfielder has earned comparisons with Maradona because of his technical ability, creativity and performances on the pitch.

His development has attracted interest from several clubs, including Manchester United, who are monitoring potential transfer targets as they consider ways to strengthen their midfield.

Elsewhere, Everton have reportedly held discussions with Manchester United over a possible January move for Marcus Rashford. According to FootballTransfers, talks have taken place as the Merseyside club explore the possibility of signing the forward.

Chelsea have also come under scrutiny over their transfer decisions. A separate FootballTransfers analysis suggested that the club could regret selling their best player, particularly under manager Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have reportedly made an unexpected decision regarding Alexis Mac Allister's contract situation. The club are also said to be considering a €115 million plan to find a replacement for captain Virgil van Dijk.

Manchester United are additionally monitoring Twente defender Ruud Nijstad as they assess potential defensive reinforcements.

Former Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann has also been warned that taking charge of Manchester United would represent an enormous risk, given the challenges associated with managing the Premier League club.

In another development, former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has reportedly become involved in a doping controversy, according to a separate report highlighted by FootballTransfers.
