Morgan Rogers Explains Joao Pedro’s Advice Behind His Stunning Goal Against Manchester United

Morgan Rogers received significant praise from Chelsea supporters after producing a superb individual goal in the club’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United, further demonstrating the attacking quality that persuaded the Blues to spend £117 million to secure his services. According to Football London on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the England international also revealed that advice from teammate Joao Pedro played a part in his memorable finish.

Following the match, Rogers spoke with former Chelsea striker Tore Andre Flo, who interviewed the midfielder about his performance and the technique behind his goal against goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

Manchester United had arguably enjoyed the stronger first-half performance, with both teams also seeing goals ruled out during the contest. However, Rogers produced the breakthrough after the interval with an impressive piece of individual skill that changed the direction of the match.

The move started when Romeo Lavia regained possession and delivered the ball to Rogers. The midfielder then accelerated towards United’s defence, worked his way past several opponents and calmly lifted the ball over the advancing Lammens to give Chelsea the lead.

Flo was particularly impressed by the composure and execution involved in the finish. During their conversation, the former striker discussed the effectiveness of attempting a chip when an attacker finds himself in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.

Flo explained that statistics he had seen suggested chipping the goalkeeper was a highly successful scoring technique in such situations, describing Rogers’ effort as an excellent finish.

In response, Rogers revealed that Joao Pedro had repeatedly encouraged him to use that method during Chelsea training sessions. The Brazilian regularly practises chipped finishes and has often urged his teammate to incorporate the technique into his own game.

Rogers suggested that Pedro’s advice may have influenced his decision during the match, explaining that the forward’s repeated encouragement was still in his thoughts when he faced Lammens.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Aston Villa, Rogers has made a strong contribution to Chelsea’s attacking play. He has recorded six goals and four assists in 12 appearances, quickly establishing himself as an influential member of Xabi Alonso’s squad.

His performances have also prompted comparisons with Flo, who made 163 appearances for Chelsea and registered 50 goals and 10 assists during his time at the club. Although Rogers still has considerable progress to make before matching those figures, maintaining his current level of production could eventually allow him to surpass the Norwegian’s contribution.

The England international has also attracted comparisons with former Chelsea star Eden Hazard because of his attacking influence and statistical output. His impressive beginning to life at Stamford Bridge is helping demonstrate why the club committed such a substantial fee to sign him.

With his confidence increasing and his understanding with teammates continuing to develop, Rogers is positioning himself to become an increasingly important attacking figure under Alonso.
