According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has tipped Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or, insisting the England captain has done enough to deserve the prestigious individual honour.
Gerrard believes Kane should finish ahead of other leading contenders, including Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe, following his impressive performances for club and country.
Speaking to TNT Sports, the former England midfielder praised Kane’s remarkable consistency and goalscoring record, arguing that the striker has fulfilled all the requirements needed to win the award.
“I just think Harry’s ticked every single box. Mr. Consistent. Absolute goal machine,” Gerrard said.
“I just don’t think there is an argument against it \[him winning the Ballon d’Or\], and I wish him all the best come that ceremony on Monday. I think it’s now or never for him.”
According to Daily Post Nigeria, Kane scored more than 70 goals for England and Bayern Munich last season, playing a key role in the German club’s Bundesliga title triumph.
The striker also secured the European Golden Boot, further strengthening his case ahead of Monday’s award ceremony.
His outstanding scoring record and contribution to Bayern’s domestic success have placed him firmly among the leading candidates for football’s most prestigious individual prize.
However, Kane faces strong competition from several high-profile players, with Yamal and Mbappe also attracting attention in the race for the award.
Gerrard’s backing has added to the debate over this year’s winner, with the former Liverpool captain convinced that Kane’s achievements make him the leading candidate.
The winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or will be announced at Monday’s ceremony.
