Barcelona could face disciplinary action after alleged assault on Real Madrid star during El Clasico

Barcelona could face disciplinary consequences following an alleged attack on Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga during Sunday’s El Clasico, with La Liga reportedly preparing to refer the incident to the disciplinary committee of the Spanish Football Federation for further examination.

The incident is said to have occurred shortly after Kylian Mbappe scored the decisive goal in Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona. Camavinga played a key role in the goal by providing the assist that helped secure the win for the home side.

According to reports, Real Madrid players were celebrating near the Barcelona supporters when a spectator allegedly swung a flagpole in the direction of the French midfielder. The situation prompted an immediate response from Camavinga’s teammates, who intervened and guided him away from the stands to prevent further escalation.

The disturbances were reportedly recorded by referee Juan Martinez Munuera in his official match report. In addition to the alleged flagpole incident, a water bottle and a Coca-Cola can were thrown from the crowd. Neither object is reported to have struck Camavinga.

The incident led to an announcement being made inside the stadium and caused a temporary interruption of approximately two minutes as officials dealt with the situation.

La Liga is now expected to submit the matter to the relevant disciplinary authorities, who will review the available footage and other evidence before determining whether any sanctions should be imposed. The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and whether disciplinary measures are warranted.

At this stage, no punishment has been confirmed against Barcelona. Any decision will depend on the findings of the disciplinary process and the evidence examined by the authorities. The referral itself does not mean the club has already been found responsible for the alleged actions of the spectator.

The development adds to an already difficult period for Barcelona, who have suffered back-to-back defeats against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and Real Madrid in La Liga.

Their latest loss, a 2-1 defeat in El Clasico, brought an end to their nine-match winning start in the Spanish league. The result also allowed Real Madrid to strengthen their position in the title race and reduce the gap at the top of the standings to three points.

Barcelona will now be looking to regain their focus as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures, while the club awaits further developments regarding the investigation. The prospect of disciplinary action could create an additional distraction at a time when the team needs to respond to its recent setbacks.

Although El Clasico is renowned for its intensity and the strong emotions it generates among supporters, the alleged behaviour of an individual spectator should not be taken as representative of Barcelona’s entire fanbase. The disciplinary authorities will be responsible for establishing the facts and determining whether any action is necessary.
