According to a report by Metro on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Youri Tielemans has criticised Manchester United’s tactics following their disappointing 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como, increasing the pressure on manager Michael Carrick after another poor performance.
Manchester United have now lost seven consecutive matches in all competitions, leaving supporters frustrated with the team’s performances and raising questions about Carrick’s ability to turn things around at Old Trafford.
Club captain Bruno Fernandes also expressed his disappointment following the defeat, claiming that the team was too focused on past successes instead of addressing its current struggles. His comments have added to the tension surrounding the club and increased the pressure on Carrick to deliver improved results.
Speaking to a broadcaster after the match, Tielemans suggested that United’s problems extend beyond a single area of their game. The Belgian midfielder attributed the heavy defeat to tactical mistakes, technical shortcomings and a lack of effort from the team.
“A mix of tactical, technical, and effort is what the Belgian midfielder put it down to. It's crucial. If your effort isn't there, your tactical acumen won't matter, and vise versa. You need to excel at everything, but we failed miserably at every aspect tonight.”
His assessment suggests that Manchester United need to improve their overall performance rather than rely on one or two players to change the team’s fortunes.
With the club’s poor run continuing across multiple matches, Carrick faces an increasingly difficult task in convincing supporters that he can lead United back to success. The manager must find solutions quickly, while the players will also need to take responsibility for their performances, particularly as costly mistakes and a lack of commitment continue to affect the team.
