According to a report by Football365 on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has insisted that Leny Yoro should start every game for the club, regardless of which injured players return to fitness.
Ferdinand was impressed by the young defender’s performance during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Sunday. He praised Yoro’s growing confidence, improved defensive ability and strength when dealing with crosses.
Speaking on Rio Presents, Ferdinand said the French defender deserved a regular place in Michael Carrick’s starting lineup after showing clear signs of improvement in recent matches.
“I don’t care who gets back fit now, I think he needs to stay in the team, prove his worth,” Ferdinand said.
The former United centre-back also praised Yoro’s defending at the back post, describing it as “top drawer” and “top class”. He believes the youngster is becoming more confident with every appearance and needs regular playing time to continue his development.
Ferdinand added that Yoro had looked solid during the Champions League match against Real Madrid and had also impressed while representing France. According to the former defender, the youngster returned to Manchester United with renewed confidence.
Meanwhile, United’s defensive problems increased during the match against Leeds when Lisandro Martinez was forced off with an injury at half time.
Noussair Mazraoui replaced the Argentine defender and was involved in the sequence that led to Leeds’ equaliser from a corner. The goal denied United all three points after Bryan Mbeumo had opened the scoring in the first half.
Despite the disappointing result, Carrick described the match as a fresh start. However, he warned his players against becoming complacent, stressing that the team must continue working hard to improve its performances.
Ferdinand’s comments underline the growing belief in Yoro’s potential, with the former United star urging Carrick to maintain the youngster’s place in the starting lineup even when senior defenders return from injury.
