November 4 2026, Ghana national team forward Antoine Semenyo has been officially shortlisted for the prestigious 2026 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award following a sensational 12 months for both club and country.
The 26-year-old’s nomination caps a career-defining year marked by high-profile domestic silverwares, history-making individual displays, and vital contributions on football’s grandest stage.
Semenyo enjoyed a remarkable 2025/26 campaign that began with AFC Bournemouth before securing a high-profile transfer to English giants Manchester City in January 2026. Under Pep Guardiola, the versatile winger quickly established himself as a focal point in attack, delivering 17 goals and four assists across the domestic season and scoring the decisive winning goal in the FA Cup final.
His stellar consistency earned him a spot in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year—becoming the first Ghanaian footballer in history to achieve the feat.
On the international front, Semenyo proved indispensable for the Black Stars. He started all four matches during Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, playing a pivotal role in guiding the national team to the Round of 32—the country’s first World Cup knockout stage appearance since 2010.
In total, the dynamic forward registered 15 goals and eight assists across 42 appearances in 2026 for club and country.
Semenyo faces stiff competition for African football's top individual honor. The shortlist includes marquee names such as Senegal's Sadio Mané, Morocco's Achraf Hakimi and Brahim Díaz, and DR Congo's Yoane Wissa.
Semenyo aims to become the first Ghanaian to claim the flagship award in the modern CAF era. The winner will be crowned at the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria, on December 7, 2026.
