Red Card And Fine Kotoko Coach In Trouble Over Player Assault

According to a report by Joy News on Monday November 2, 2026, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially charged Asante Kotoko assistant coach Diogo Peral following an alleged physical assault on Medeama SC player Ebenezer Adade during their Ghana Premier League encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The disciplinary action follows an incident during the Matchday Nine fixture between the two clubs on Sunday, November 1, 2026, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Peral was shown a red card by the match officials after allegedly slapping Medeama defender Ebenezer Adade during a heated exchange near the touchline.

The incident reportedly happened when Adade attempted to retrieve the ball to facilitate a quick restart of play. In the process, the Medeama player appeared to have pushed the Kotoko assistant coach, triggering a reaction from Peral, who allegedly retaliated by slapping him.

The incident attracted attention during the encounter and has subsequently resulted in disciplinary proceedings by the football governing body.

In a communication confirming the development, the GFA Disciplinary Committee indicated that Peral had been charged with breaching Article 12(1)(h) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019.

The Portuguese coach has been given until Wednesday, November 4, 2026, to respond to the allegations and present his defence before the committee determines the next course of action.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko have also taken internal disciplinary action against their assistant coach following the incident.

The Kumasi-based club confirmed that it had imposed a financial fine on Peral, stressing that his behaviour did not reflect the standards, values and professionalism expected of individuals representing the Porcupine Warriors.

The club's decision forms part of its commitment to maintaining discipline, accountability and respect within its technical team.

The GFA's disciplinary proceedings, however, remain separate from Kotoko's internal punishment, meaning Peral could face additional sanctions depending on the outcome of the case.

On the football front, the 1-1 draw leaves Asante Kotoko ninth on the Ghana Premier League table with 13 points after nine matches.

The Porcupine Warriors will now turn their attention to their next league assignment against Berekum Chelsea as they seek to return to winning ways.
