Kylian Mbappé reacts with message after the tragic passing of Spanish striker Jesús de Miguel

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has joined the growing tributes to Spanish striker Jesús de Miguel following the Tenerife player’s death at the age of 30. The French international expressed his grief after the devastating news emerged on Tuesday morning, November 3, 2026.

According to Madrid Xtra, Mbappé shared a short message on his Instagram story, acknowledging the loss and offering a tribute to the late footballer. His post read: “Much sadness. There are no words. RIP,” in a message translated from Spanish.

De Miguel died less than a day after suffering a serious collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a Segunda División fixture. His passing has deeply affected Spanish football, prompting messages of sympathy from players, clubs and other prominent figures across the sport.

The incident happened during stoppage time of Monday’s meeting between Tenerife and Andorra, when the teams were level at 2-2. Owono left his goal to deal with a long ball but accidentally struck De Miguel in the chest with his knee while attempting to clear the danger.

The Equatorial Guinea international received a red card following the collision, and the match was subsequently abandoned. Medical staff immediately entered the pitch to assist De Miguel, spending more than five minutes treating him before he was transported by ambulance to Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital.

Spanish media reports indicated that the striker suffered cardiac arrest and had to be revived during the journey to hospital. Tenerife initially announced that his condition had stabilised, offering hope to supporters and those following the situation. However, a later update revealed that his neurological condition had deteriorated.

The club confirmed his death at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday through an emotional statement expressing its profound sorrow. Tenerife said it was struggling to accept the loss and extended its thoughts to everyone affected by the tragedy.

Mbappé was among several well-known football figures who reacted to the announcement. Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea also expressed his sadness, posting broken-heart and praying-hands emojis.

Gerard Piqué, the former Barcelona defender and owner of FC Andorra, offered condolences to De Miguel’s relatives and the Tenerife community. He wrote: “I am sorry with all my soul. Rest in peace, Jesús.”

Real Madrid also issued an official message of sympathy, remembering the striker and supporting his family, teammates and club. Their goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, joined the tributes, describing the news as deeply sad and sending his condolences to those closest to De Miguel.

The tragedy also prompted action from football authorities. The Spanish Football Federation postponed every match scheduled for Tuesday, including fixtures in the Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina. UEFA separately announced that moments of silence would take place before European matches during the week.

De Miguel joined Tenerife from Castellón in 2025 and contributed significantly to the club’s promotion from Spain’s third division, scoring 11 goals during the campaign. His sudden passing has left teammates, supporters and the wider football community mourning a player whose career was still developing.
