Chelsea Goalkeeper Mike Penders Told To Follow Antonin Kinsky’s Example After Spurs Error

According to a report by Football London on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders has been encouraged to follow Antonin Kinsky’s example as he looks to recover from his costly mistake against Tottenham Hotspur.

The 21 year old Belgian endured a difficult afternoon during Chelsea’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to Tottenham at Stamford Bridge. Making his first Premier League start, Penders punched a corner into his own goal before Mathys Tel scored from distance to seal the visitors’ victory.

His mistake attracted criticism on social media, adding to the pressure on the young goalkeeper ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures under head coach Xabi Alonso.

However, Kinsky’s experience shows that goalkeepers can recover from costly errors and regain their place in the team.

The Tottenham goalkeeper faced a similar situation earlier this year during the club’s Champions League last 16 tie against Atletico Madrid. He conceded three goals in just 15 minutes, with two of them following slips while attempting to play the ball.

His difficult performance led interim manager Igor Tudor to substitute him after only 17 minutes. Kinsky was also left out of the starting lineup for the second leg and Tottenham’s next Premier League match.

Despite the setback, the Czech goalkeeper worked his way back into the team towards the end of the campaign. He helped Tottenham secure three victories in their final five league matches, playing an important role in their fight to avoid relegation.

Kinsky has continued to feature regularly under Roberto De Zerbi during the 2026/27 season. He has recorded three clean sheets in eight Premier League appearances, including Tottenham’s recent victory over Chelsea.

His recovery demonstrates that a single poor performance does not have to define a goalkeeper’s career. Learning from mistakes, staying focused and taking advantage of future opportunities can help restore confidence.

Meanwhile, Penders is expected to remain Chelsea’s first choice goalkeeper for at least three more matches because Emiliano Martinez is unavailable with a broken jaw.

The Belgian will have an immediate opportunity to respond when Chelsea face Liverpool at Anfield in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup fourth-round encounter. The Blues will then meet Manchester United and Sunderland in the Premier League.

These matches could be important for Penders as he attempts to move past his mistake, prove his ability and maintain Alonso’s confidence in him.
