According to a report by the Evening Standard on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Chelsea have suffered an injury setback after João Pedro was ruled out of their Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian forward was a surprise omission from Chelsea's matchday squad despite playing the full 90 minutes in their previous league match against Everton. He had also been pictured taking part in training on Friday, making his absence from the London derby unexpected.
However, the Evening Standard reports that João Pedro has sustained an injury and is being assessed by Chelsea's medical staff. The club are yet to disclose the exact nature of the problem or how long he could be sidelined.
His absence is a significant blow to Chelsea, given his impressive contributions in the Premier League this season. The Brazilian has scored five goals and provided three assists in six appearances, making him an important attacking option for the team.
Chelsea will be hoping the injury is not serious, as João Pedro faces a race against time to recover for their midweek trip to Liverpool in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
With João Pedro unavailable, Geovany Quenda was handed his full Premier League debut against Tottenham. The youngster featured in the attacking line alongside Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer as Chelsea adjusted their forward options for the derby.
Danny Welbeck was named among the substitutes, providing another attacking option from the bench. Estevão was also included in the matchday squad, while Emmanuel Emegha, who is recovering from an injury, was left out.
Chelsea also made a change in goal, with Mike Penders selected to start as Emi Martinez continues his recovery from a broken jaw.
Tottenham, meanwhile, included James Maddison in their starting lineup despite the midfielder missing three days of training during the week. He partnered Mateus Fernandes in midfield, while Pedro Porro was named among the substitutes after recovering sufficiently to take his place on the bench.
Chelsea will continue to monitor João Pedro's condition as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures, with his availability for the Carabao Cup meeting with Liverpool now a concern following his unexpected absence against Tottenham.
