Flamengo issue response after Jorginho doping accusation

According to a report by FootballTransfers on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Flamengo have responded to reports linking former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Jorginho to an alleged doping case in Brazil, insisting that the club has not received any official notification regarding the matter.

Journalist Thiago Asmar claimed that the 34-year-old midfielder had returned an adverse result in an initial anti-doping test, with a second analysis reportedly scheduled for October 27.

However, no official confirmation of an anti-doping violation has been issued, and the circumstances surrounding the reported result remain unclear.

Radio Globo journalist Renan Moura reported that Flamengo were unaware of any issue involving the player and had not been informed of a possible second analysis.

Moura said: “The matter involving the possible doping from Jorginho, reported by the journalist Thiago Asmar, is already hanging over Flamengo ahead of the return leg of the Copa Libertadores semi-finals, but upon investigation, the club says it has not been notified about the issue to date. As such, the midfielder played normally against Estudiantes yesterday at the Maracana.

“The club is also unaware of any possible second analysis to be conducted next week. I learned that there was, however, a routine and traditional Conmebol technical visit to Flamengo before the quarterfinals against Del Valle, to collect anti-doping tests.

“In contact, a Conmebol member says they are unaware of the episode involving the red-and-black player. Another representative of the South American entity stated that all and any doping control processes are subject to total internal confidentiality. As such, it is not possible to confirm whether a player, whoever it may be, is under investigation or not.”

If an anti-doping violation is established, Jorginho could face a suspension, with reports suggesting a possible ban ranging from six months to two years, depending on the circumstances.

The allegations have emerged during a difficult period for Flamengo, who were eliminated from the Copa Libertadores by Estudiantes following a penalty shoot-out.

Jorginho missed his spot-kick as the Brazilian club lost 3-2, while former West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta also failed to convert his attempt.

Flamengo have since appealed against the participation of former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo, arguing that he was ineligible because he had not received the required CONMEBOL registration.
