UCL Table After Liverpool Won 4-3

According to a report by BBC Sport on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Liverpool staged an impressive comeback to defeat Villarreal 4-3 in a thrilling Champions League encounter.

The Reds recovered from a two-goal deficit, with Alexis Mac Allister, Ronald Araujo and Florian Wirtz helping them turn the game around. However, Tanitoluwa Oluwaseyi’s late goal ensured a tense finish to an entertaining contest.

Villarreal made a dream start when Georges Mikautadze took advantage of a defensive error in the fourth minute. The forward collected the loose ball before calmly finishing past Alisson to give the visitors an early lead.

Liverpool attempted to respond through Rio Ngumoha and Ryan Gravenberch, but Villarreal continued to threaten on the counterattack.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 29th minute when Nathan Saliba found Sergi Cardona inside the penalty area. The defender made no mistake with his finish into the bottom-left corner, leaving Liverpool with an uphill task.

Mac Allister reduced the deficit seven minutes later, heading home Konstantinos Tsimikas’ corner to give the home side renewed hope.

Liverpool completed their comeback before half-time when Araujo connected with an excellent cross from Ngumoha during stoppage time, directing his header inside the right post to make it 2-2.

Florian Wirtz was introduced at the beginning of the second half, strengthening Liverpool’s attacking threat. The hosts took the lead for the first time in the 65th minute when Ngumoha delivered the ball into the penalty area and Mac Allister controlled the opportunity before firing into the roof of the net.

Wirtz extended Liverpool’s advantage just three minutes later, finishing confidently into the bottom-right corner after receiving an intelligent pass from Cody Gakpo. The goal gave the Reds a two-goal cushion and put them in a strong position to secure victory.

Villarreal refused to give up, however, and continued searching for a way back into the match. Alisson produced an excellent save to deny Pape Gueye before Oluwaseyi brought the visitors closer in the 87th minute.

The striker controlled a superb lofted pass from Ayoze Perez before firing into the bottom-left corner, setting up a tense finish.

Liverpool managed to withstand Villarreal’s late pressure to secure a memorable 4-3 victory. Despite the visitors’ spirited performance and strong start, the Reds’ attacking quality and improved second-half display ultimately proved decisive.
