Man Utd reportedly track Nico Paz as possible successor to Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United are reportedly considering Como midfielder Nico Paz as a potential long-term successor to Bruno Fernandes, whose future at Old Trafford remains uncertain amid ongoing questions about his contract and relationship with the club.

According to FootballTransfers, interest in the Argentine playmaker has grown following United’s disappointing 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como. Fernandes reportedly expressed frustration with Michael Carrick’s tactical approach after the match, while discussions concerning his contract have yet to provide clarity about whether he will remain at Manchester United.

Paz emerged as one of the standout performers during the encounter, scoring twice and providing an assist to underline his growing reputation. His impressive display against the English side has further strengthened his position as a midfielder attracting attention from several leading European clubs.

UEFA technical observer Roberto Martínez was particularly impressed by the 22-year-old’s performance, praising his technical ability, balance, composure and precision. Martínez also drew comparisons between Paz’s influence on the game and the qualities associated with Argentine football legend Diego Maradona.

Transfer journalist Nicolò Schira has reported that Manchester United are among the clubs monitoring the midfielder’s progress. Chelsea and Arsenal have also been linked with the Como star, suggesting that competition for his signature could become increasingly intense if he remains available in the transfer market.

However, Como are reportedly determined to retain Paz, whose performances have made him an important figure in their plans. Their position could be complicated by Real Madrid, who are said to have an €80 million buy-back clause included in the midfielder’s contract.

Madrid’s potential involvement could give the Spanish giants a significant advantage in any future negotiations. Nevertheless, returning to the Santiago Bernabéu would not necessarily guarantee Paz regular first-team football, given the competition for places within the squad.

The Argentine has primarily operated as an attacking midfielder, a role also occupied by Jude Bellingham. Securing consistent playing time could therefore prove challenging, while other attacking positions are contested by established stars, including Kylian Mbappé, and new signing Yan Diomande.

Manchester United could potentially present a more attractive opportunity if Fernandes eventually departs. His exit would create a vacancy in the club’s attacking midfield structure and potentially allow Paz to assume greater responsibility while establishing himself in the Premier League.

At 22, the Como midfielder is approaching a crucial stage in his development, and regular appearances at a major club could be important to his continued progress. United’s reported interest suggests they may be considering future options should uncertainty surrounding Fernandes lead to a significant change in their midfield.

Although no completed deal has been announced, Paz’s performance against United has increased attention on his future. With Como eager to keep him, several English clubs monitoring his situation and Real Madrid holding a reported contractual advantage, the midfielder could become a major name in upcoming transfer discussions.
