According to KessbenTV, on Wednesday October 28, 2026, AshantiGold 04 have reportedly parted ways with coach Karim Zito as head coach of the Obuasi-based club, raising questions about the circumstances that led to the decision and its possible implications for the team's technical direction.
The development has attracted attention among Ghanaian football followers, particularly supporters interested in the club's ambitions and plans for the ongoing campaign.
Zito, an experienced Ghanaian football coach, has worked with several teams during his coaching career and is known for his involvement in the development of local football talent.
His departure from the Obuasi club marks a significant development for the team's technical department.
According to reports, AshantiGold 04 CEO Edward Kwasi Akuoko has explained that the club’s decision was influenced by inconsistent results, poor performances away from home and reports of strained relations among members of the technical team.
Speaking to Kumasi-based Obaapa Radio, Akuoko stressed that the club’s status as a newly promoted side would not prevent management from demanding consistent performances.
“As a serious club, you always want to win,” he said.
“I’m not a leader who always lowers expectations just because we are a newly promoted side,” he added.
He clarified that management was not necessarily demanding that the team win the league title at all costs, but wanted greater consistency in its performances and results.
“We are not saying we have to win the league at all costs, but we simply want consistent results. Our away performances have been poor,” Akuoko stated.
The CEO also disclosed that he had received reports suggesting that members of the technical team were not working harmoniously, raising concerns about whether internal disagreements could have affected the squad’s performances.
“The second reason is that, personally, I received reports that the technical team led by Karim Zito were not on good terms, and that could be affecting our results,” he added.
Zito’s Departure Comes After Promotion to the Premier League
Zito joined AshantiGold 04 in February 2026 after leaving Asante Kotoko. He subsequently played a key role in guiding the Obuasi-based club to promotion to the Ghana Premier League for the first time in its history.
However, the team struggled to establish a consistent run of results during the opening stages of the 2026/27 season, prompting management to make changes to the technical department.
The club announced on October 27, 2026, that Zito, assistant coach Ernest Okyere and goalkeeper trainer Robert Dabo had been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.
A caretaker coach has been appointed to oversee the team while management works towards naming a permanent head coach and technical director.
AshantiGold 04 are now expected to regroup under interim leadership as they seek to improve their performances and maintain their place in the top flight.
The development marks a major change for the Miners, who had entrusted Zito with leading their return to Ghana’s elite division after years outside the Premier League.
