Danny Welbeck is reportedly playing a significant mentoring role in Morgan Rogers' development at Chelsea, with Owen Hargreaves disclosing details of a conversation he had with the experienced forward.
According to a report by The Chelsea Chronicle on Monday, November 2, 2026, Hargreaves spoke about Welbeck's influence on Rogers following Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Rogers produced another impressive display, scoring the opening goal with an outstanding individual effort. The midfielder drove past Manchester United's midfield and defensive players before delicately chipping goalkeeper Senne Lammens with his left foot.
The goal took his tally to six for Chelsea, while he has now contributed 10 goals and assists in 12 appearances since joining the club.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Hargreaves revealed that Welbeck was actively encouraging the England international to improve his game and fulfil his potential.
Hargreaves said Welbeck told him that he was constantly pushing Rogers to become a better player because of the youngster's exceptional talent. He also expressed surprise at the midfielder's impressive physical stature.
Welbeck arrived at Chelsea during the summer alongside Jordan Henderson and Emi Martinez as the club sought to strengthen its squad with experienced players.
His influence appears to be having a positive effect on Rogers, who has quickly established himself as an important member of Xabi Alonso's team.
Chelsea reportedly beat Arsenal to Rogers' signature during the summer transfer window, and the midfielder has already begun rewarding the club's decision through his impressive performances.
According to FotMob, Rogers currently has the fourth-highest player rating in the Premier League this season, with an average score of 7.72. Only Erling Haaland, Declan Rice and his Chelsea teammate Joao Pedro are rated higher.
He is also the highest-rated player among footballers who joined new clubs during the summer transfer window.
Welbeck's guidance could become increasingly important as Rogers continues to develop, while Chelsea stand to benefit from the combination of the midfielder's talent and the experience within Alonso's squad.
