According to Sky Germany, Liverpool has been in talks with Borussia Dortmund about signing midfielder Felix Nmecha.
Despite selling Curtis Jones to Inter Milan this summer, the Reds chose without signing a new midfielder. Andoni Iraola’s current deeper midfield options are Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis MacAllister, Wataru Endo, Trey Nyoni, and Dominik Szoboszlai.
However, the Hungarian has recently struggled with fitness issues, while Endo has been on the perimeter for the past two years. Nyoni, on the other hand, is still in his early stages of development.
As a result, it appears Liverpool is planning to reinforce the engine room next year. According to Sky Germany, Iraola’s team has identified Nmecha as a genuine alternative after being pleased by his recent standout displays at Signal Iduna Park.
The Merseyside club has even met with the players’ reps. However, they have shown little definite interest in completing the transaction and are instead focusing on purchasing Lamine Camara or Alex Scott.
Transfermarkt values the 26-year-old at roughly £54 million, and his contract runs until 2030. So Dortmund isn’t in a hurry to sell him, and they normally play hardball when it comes to letting their star players go.
Nmecha is a 6ft 3in tall, right-footed box-to-box midfielder who can also play defensively. He is dynamic, strong, can dribble past opposing defenders in tight spaces, and makes effective defensive contributions.
Since joining BVB from Wolfsburg in 2023, Nmecha has established himself as a consistent starter. He has earned a spot in the German national team after proving himself in the Bundesliga.
Nmecha is a talented footballer who is now in the prime of his career. Furthermore, he possesses the physical traits required to succeed in the Premier League.
As a result, if Liverpool does sign the Dortmund star, he could be a wise investment. However, it will be intriguing to watch if the Merseyside club makes a formal offer to sign him in January or next summer.
Meanwhile, after a hard-fought Champions League victory against Villarreal, Liverpool will face Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League this weekend.
