English-Ghanaian forward Maleace Asamoah was on target as Port Vale cruised to a 5-0 victory over Manchester City U21s in the Jersey Mike’s Trophy.
Asamoah opened the scoring after just four minutes at Vale Park, finishing from close range to give Jon Brady’s side an early advantage.
The goal came after Jaheim Headley played a through ball to Onel Hernandez, who advanced down the left flank before cutting the ball back for Asamoah to convert.
Port Vale doubled their lead six minutes later when Aaron McGowan headed home from a Headley corner, marking an impressive start to his first appearance in the club’s starting lineup.
McGowan subsequently turned provider in the 30th minute, delivering a looping cross that Max Watters headed into the net to make it 3-0.
Lewis Montsma added a fourth four minutes later, connecting with another accurate McGowan delivery to leave Manchester City facing a difficult task before half-time.
The visitors showed greater attacking intent after the break, but substitute Keyrol Figueroa completed the scoring by converting Kyle John’s cross.
The emphatic victory secured Port Vale’s place in the knockout stages of the Jersey Mike’s Trophy, with Asamoah’s early contribution helping set the tone for a dominant performance.
