Ghana coach Joe Nana Adarkwa has warned that the Black Maidens face a difficult test against Argentina in their Round of 16 clash at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
The two sides meet on Wednesday, with Ghana aiming to secure a place in the quarter-finals after recovering from a disappointing start to the tournament.
Speaking to FIFA Media, Nana Adarkwa described Argentina as a strong opponent and said his team would need to remain cautious, particularly in defence.
“The game will be very, very, very tricky. They are a good side, and we are in the knockout phase, so we are going to be very cautious,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of improving the team’s finishing, having created several scoring opportunities in their previous matches.
“We have to take our chances because we are one of the teams in this tournament that have created a lot of chances, but how to convert them is another problem,” he added.
“So we’re looking forward to it, but we have to be cautious in our back line so that they won’t catch us.”
The Black Maidens lost 3-0 to Norway in their opening Group C match but responded with a thrilling 3-3 draw against Brazil before beating Canada 2-0 in their final group game.
That victory secured Ghana’s place in the knockout stage, with the team finishing second in Group C.
Argentina, meanwhile, topped their group unbeaten, setting up a challenging encounter for Adarkwa’s side.
The match is scheduled for 15:00 GMT at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, where Ghana will look to build on their improved performances and advance to the last eight.
