Japan has secured its place in the final of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over North Korea on Wednesday.

The semi-final encounter ended in a 1-1 draw after regular time, with Japan sealing an equalizer deep into injury time before prevailing in the subsequent shootout.

Japan will now await the winner of the second semi-final fixture between Nigeria and Brazil, which is set to take place on Wednesday night. The victor of that clash will meet Japan in the tournament final on Saturday evening, while the losing side will face North Korea in the third-place playoff.
