Trinidad and Tobago’s Club Sando Football Club will have a return date with Haiti’s Violette AC in December, when the teams meet for third place in the 2026 CONCACAF Caribbean Cup and the final qualifying spot for next year’s CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Violette AC missed out on advancing to the Caribbean Cup final despite defeating Portmore United 2-1 in last Wednesday night’s second leg of their semi-final series at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. After winning the first leg 3-1, Portmore United advanced 4-3 on aggregate to the final and secured a place in the Champions Cup. The result sets up an all-Jamaican final, with Portmore United taking on defending Caribbean Cup champions Mount Pleasant FA in December.
Portmore opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Tedj Bryan pounced on a rebound and fired home after the goalkeeper had saved Tarick Ximines’s initial effort.
Neat footwork and a driving run ended with Maxime Jeanty equalised for Violette in the 73rd minute, finishing with a low shot from the left side of the penalty area.
The Haitian team continued to press and Roberto Jean put them ahead on the night in the 87th minute with a strike from the edge of the box, cutting into Portmore’s aggregate advantage.
Violette came close to forcing extra time, but a remarkable last-minute goal line defensive clearance from Portmore United denied them a third goal, which would have given them a 3-1 win on the night and levelled the aggregate score.
Violette will now meet Club Sando, whom they fortuitously edged 1-0 in the preliminary stage.
That evenly contested encounter appeared headed for a goalless draw until Club Sando goalkeeper Teshorne Ragoo lost concentration in the dying stages and redirected a routine cross into his own net.
Club Sando went out 3-1 on aggregate to Mount Pleasant in their semi-final, drawing the first leg 1-1 in Port of Spain before losing the return 2-0 in Jamaica.
