Former Hearts of Oak striker Bernard Arthur has challenged Ghana’s national team selectors to give Hearts of Oak players greater recognition.
According to Arthur, the Phobians have enough quality players who can feature prominently across the country’s national teams.
Hearts of Oak have made a strong start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, collecting 17 points from eight matches to sit second in the league standings.
Their impressive form has caught Arthur’s attention, with the former Liberty Professionals and Azam FC attacker convinced that several players at the capital-based club deserve opportunities to represent Ghana at international level.
Arthur believes the Phobians growing influence on the domestic scene should be reflected in the national teams, arguing that Hearts of Oak players should not be limited to consideration for the senior Black Stars alone.
Speaking to Koforidua-based Swiit FM, the 29-year-old said he was unhappy that few Hearts of Oak players are being selected for Ghana’s national teams, with goalkeeper Benjamin Asare being the main exception.
“For some time now, I have been following Hearts of Oak and the Ghana Premier League as a whole, and I have seen a lot of talent, particularly in the Hearts of Oak team.
“They are currently second in the league standings, and we are talking about one of the biggest clubs in Africa. Yet, none of their players are in the various national teams, with the exception of Benjamin Asare. I do not think that speaks well of the situation.
“Their players should be dominating the national teams, not just the Black Stars. I believe that would also boost their confidence and motivate them to do more,” he said.
