Should Michael Carrick recall Bruno Fernandes with his Man Utd job on the line?

HAVE YOUR SAY: Michael Carrick chose to drop Bruno Fernandes last weekend but, with it job on the line and private talks held, should the Manchester United boss bring his captain back into the starting picture

The image of Bruno Fernandes glued to the Manchester United bench last Sunday said a lot. It was undoubtedly a power play from Michael Carrick, who must've thought he'd led his former side for the last time.

In the six days since he's been backed by those above him, but with the caveat that things need to improve and fast if he is to remain long-term. Carrick and Fernandes have also held talks to clear the air.

The Portugal star was scathing about Carrick in the aftermath of the loss at Como, and clearly the United boss felt he needed to make a statement, even if that meant leaving out his best player.

And whilst Fernandes may be United's best player, he's hardly been playing at his optimum this season. Carrick will also know that, with his job on the line, he may need his players to dig deep and commit to him. It is also worth noting that Fernandes was, supposedly, dropped for football reasons. Have those reasons really changed in the space of a week?

Even after discussing any differences with Fernandes, questions have to be asked over whether the Portuguese playmaker will truly buy in for his manager, who needs a win more than ever.
