La Masia has nine players in FC Barcelona squad, Sport reports

FC Barcelona’s La Masia academy has provided nine players who accumulated 4,260 minutes, 18 goals, and 23 asistances this season, drastically outperforming Real Madrid’s La Fábrica, which has contributed just one player, 331 minutes, one goal, and one assist, SPORT reported.

La Masia Usage Surpasses Real Madrid Academy Figures

The gap between the two Spanish clubs’ youth integration models has widened significantly in early-season fixtures. While Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick heavily relies on academy graduates, Real Madrid’s reliance on homegrown talent remains minimal. SPORT’s analysis shows that across players used, minutes played, goals scored, and assists provided, La Masia multiplies La Fábrica’s output by factors of 9, 12, 18, and 23 respectively.

Barcelona Relies on Nine Homegrown Players Under Flick

Flick has integrated nine players developed in Barcelona’s youth system into competitive action this campaign. The group comprises Eric García, Pau Cubarsí, Xavi Espart, Alejandro Balde, Marc Bernal, Gavi, Fermín López, Dani Olmo, and Lamine Yamal. An additional youngster, Brian Fariñas, awaits his official first-team debut. Together, these nine players have driven the club’s offensive and defensive rotations through 4,260 minutes on the pitch.

Real Madrid Deploys Only One La Fábrica Product

Conversely, Real Madrid has featured only one player with roots in its La Fábrica academy: left-back Álvaro Carreras. Although the club recovered Carreras from Benfica for 50 million euros, he stands alone as the sole representative of the club’s youth system in the current squad. Other youth products such as Asencio and Pitarch have yet to make their official debuts.

Marc Cucurella Outplays Madrid’s Sole Academy Representative

The stark disparity extends even to players operating outside of Catalonia. Former Barcelona youth product Marc Cucurella, now plying his trade elsewhere, has recorded 753 minutes of action—more than double the 331 minutes managed by Madrid’s lone academy representative, Carreras. SPORT noted that these figures highlight a divergent path in how the two historic rivals construct their squads.
