Black Queens have dropped five places to 65th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings released on Tuesday, 20 October.
The Queens, who were ranked 60th in the previous edition, have also slipped from third to fifth in Africa following the latest update.
South Africa and Morocco have moved ahead of Ghana in the continental rankings, while Nigeria remain Africa’s highest-ranked women’s national team.
The latest drop comes after a disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), held in Morocco in July and August.
Ghana were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Malawi, missing out on a place in the last four and an opportunity to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Black Queens subsequently turned their attention to the qualification campaign for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, facing Mauritius in the preliminary round.
Ghana won both legs of the tie to progress to the next round, recording a 10-0 aggregate victory.
Despite that result, the Black Queens have suffered a setback in the latest world rankings, having dropped from 60th to 65th globally.
The team are expected to return to action next month in the preliminary phase of the play-off tournament for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, as they seek to secure a place at the competition.
