GPL Match Day 10: Title contenders seek consistency as league battle intensifies

The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League continues to deliver competitive football. With nine rounds completed, the focus now shifts to match day 10, where clubs will be seeking valuable points to strengthen their positions and sustain their ambitions.

Stephen Afoakwa of Heart of Lions

As the competition intensifies, consistency will become increasingly important for sides hoping to challenge for the title, while those struggling in the lower half will be eager to avoid being dragged further into the relegation battle. The latest round presents another opportunity for clubs to respond to recent results, build momentum and establish themselves as serious contenders.

Bibiani Gold Stars welcome Aduana FC

Bibiani Gold Stars will be desperate to return to winning ways when they welcome Aduana FC to the Bibiani Duns Park in what promises to be a difficult encounter for the hosts.

The Miners suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to FC Samartex in their previous outing, a result that extended their inconsistent run and left them 14th on the league table with 10 points from nine matches. Having managed just three victories so far, Gold Stars will need to improve their attacking output if they are to overcome an Aduana side arriving with renewed confidence.

Medeamas Etse Dogli

Aduana, meanwhile, head into the encounter on the back of an impressive 2-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea, courtesy of Stephen Amankona’s brace. The win lifted the Dormaa-based side to fourth place with 16 points, keeping them firmly within reach of the leading positions.

With Aduana displaying greater consistency in recent weeks, Gold Stars face a stern examination of their ambitions to climb the standings. However, home advantage could prove important as the Miners seek to halt their recent setbacks.

Battle of Big Hearts

Hearts of Oak will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to Debibi United when they host Heart of Lions at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Hearts of Oak fefender, Osei Asibey

The Phobians suffered a surprise 1-0 loss to the Premier League newcomers last weekend, bringing an end to their three-match winning streak. The defeat leaves them third on the table with 17 points, just one point behind leaders Medeama and Samartex, and they will be eager to avoid dropping further points in the title race.

Despite their recent setback, Hearts have demonstrated defensive solidity this season, having conceded just three goals in nine matches. Their ability to turn that defensive strength into attacking efficiency will be crucial against a Heart of Lions side that has shown signs of improvement.

The visitors come into the fixture following an impressive 2-1 comeback victory over Bechem United. After falling behind, William Oduro struck two minutes from full-time to secure all three points for the Kpando-based side.

Sitting 12th with 11 points, Heart of Lions will be hoping to build on that victory and cause another upset. However, Hearts will be determined to use their home advantage to return to winning ways and maintain their position among the league’s leading contenders.

Berekum Chelsea vs Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko will travel to the Golden City Park to face Berekum Chelsea with the Porcupine Warriors seeking to build momentum after their 1-1 draw against defending champions Medeama SC.

Kotoko showed resilience to recover from a first-half deficit through captain Musah Hamzata’s 58th-minute equaliser, earning a point against a Medeama side that remains among the early title favorites.

However, the result leaves the Kumasi-based side ninth on the standings with 13 points, and they will be aware that another dropped opportunity could widen the gap between them and the leading pack.

Faisal Chawetey, Swedru All Blacks

Their opponents, Berekum Chelsea, have endured a difficult spell and will be equally determined to respond after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Aduana FC. Stephen Amankona’s second-half brace condemned Chelsea to another disappointing result, leaving them 11th with 11 points.

Chelsea will hope to take advantage of their home surroundings to frustrate Kotoko, but the visitors will fancy their chances of collecting maximum points if they can build on the fighting spirit displayed against Medeama.

For Kotoko, the assignment presents an opportunity to secure a much-needed victory and strengthen their push towards the top end of the table.
