Jessica Appiah Asamoah was named Player of the Match after helping Ghana secure a thrilling 3-3 draw with Brazil at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
The Black Maidens midfielder was central to Ghana’s attacking play throughout the 90 minutes, repeatedly troubling the Brazilian defence with her vision, energy and creativity.
Although Rafia Osman, Gloria Ameaa and Priscilla Mensah scored Ghana’s goals, Appiah Asamoah provided the influence that drove the team forward. Her contribution was capped by a decisive piece of play late in the match.
With Ghana trailing 3-2 in the 85th minute, Appiah Asamoah collected possession in midfield and beat two Brazilian players before sending a well-weighted pass through the defence. Priscilla Mensah completed the move by tapping in the equaliser.
The assist was the midfielder’s second key chance created during the match. Her performance also included a series of dribbles, tackles and intelligent decisions in possession as Ghana fought back to claim a point.
The result prevented the Black Maidens from suffering a second consecutive defeat after they lost their opening match to Norway.
Appiah Asamoah’s individual award comes at an important stage of Ghana’s campaign. The team now faces a must-win final Group C match against Canada, with victory required to keep their qualification hopes alive.
The Player of the Match recognition is expected to provide further encouragement for the young midfielder as Ghana prepares for that decisive encounter.
