Ghana's Black Comets finish seventh at maiden FIFA U-15 World Cup

Ghana's national U-15 boys team, the Black Comets, have finished seventh in the overall rankings at the maiden FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Azerbaijan.

The Black Comets enjoyed an impressive campaign, winning eight of their 10 matches, scoring 44 goals and finishing among the top eight teams at the competition.

Ghana began their campaign in dominant fashion, winning all five matches in Group W to finish top with a perfect 15 points. They scored 27 goals and conceded just three during the group stage.

Their results included a 4-1 victory over Uzbekistan, a 7-1 win against Myanmar, 7-0 triumphs over Guam and the Bahamas, and a 2-1 victory over Kazakhstan.

The young Ghanaian side maintained their winning run in the knockout stages, beating South Korea 2-1 before recording an impressive 5-2 victory over Mexico in the Round of 16. Shamsudeen Sulemana scored four goals against Mexico, while Abdul Aziz Issah also found the net.

However, their run came to an end in the quarter-finals after a 2-2 draw against Paraguay, with Ghana losing 7-6 on penalties.

The Black Comets subsequently suffered a 7-1 defeat to Brazil in the fifth-to-eighth-place ranking play-offs but responded strongly in their final game, beating Colombia 4-0 to conclude the tournament on a winning note.

Ghana finished seventh in the final overall rankings, behind Spain, Czechia, Greece, Paraguay, Brazil and Guinea.

Spain topped the rankings, with Czechia and Greece completing the top three.

Despite missing out on a place in the final four, the Black Comets' eight victories and 44 goals across 10 matches represent an impressive campaign for the young Ghanaian side at the inaugural tournament.
