On the heels of Bayern Munich’s massive €250 million cash injection from the Viessmann Group, the club’s Bundesliga competitors have chimed in to discuss the deal with Bild (via @iMiaSanMia):

Bayern’s league competitors were asked whether the €250m from the Viessmann deal will further increase the gap and make it impossible for them to compete with Bayern.

  • Fernando Carro (Leverkusen): “No, the next titles are not decided. Bayern have always had more resources than the rest of the league. That should motivate all of us to challenge them year after year with everything at our disposal. But it’s also clear that this deal will widen the gap even further. We in German football chose the existing model. We must then also accept the consequences for competition.”
  • Oliver Mintzlaff (Red Bull): “We’re not giving up. We’re looking at how to get better. FC Bayern have exceptional financial resources and are further strengthening their position through partnerships like this. They can only be congratulated on that, and it once again underlines what an excellent job they have been doing for decades. The deal changes the framework, but not our ambition. In the future, what will also be decisive is who makes the best decisions, develops talent, drives innovation, and creates a strong environment. That is where we are focusing our efforts. Our goal remains to establish RB Leipzig permanently as one of the strongest competitors in German football.”
  • Hans-Joachim Watzke (BVB): “When a club manages to pull off such a great deal, it deserves recognition and a proper congratulations. So congratulations and compliments to FC Bayern. As someone in charge of Borussia Dortmund, I’m not concerned with what this means for the competition for now. My focus is on ourselves and on how we can continue to improve as Borussia Dortmund.”

The response was… not bad. In some cases, this might have sparked some snide commentary, but not here.

Who’d have thunk it?
