With the Cleveland Browns jumping out to a 5-3 record, we forget that this is still a team that is in the early stages of a rebuild. Their core players are mostly very young, and the window for a potential Super Bowl run has not opened yet.
On Wednesday, we got a reminder of exactly how young this team is. Josh Edwards of CBS Sports put out his midseason all-rookie team. It should come as no surprise that several Browns made this list.
To be specific, he listed four Browns players as all-rookie selections. These were wide receivers KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston, as well as left tackle Spencer Fano and safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren.
In this, he highlighted Boston’s fast start to the season and his spectacular catches, while with Concepcion he focused on his success over the last three games and that his arrow is pointing up. Both should continue to ascend as they get more experience in the NFL.
On the Browns' top pick in the draft, Spence Fano, Edwards had this to say.
“Fano has a really natural feel for the game. He communicates and picks up exchanges well. He possesses the requisite foot quickness and ankle flexion to handle most of what is thrown at him.”
The youth on the offensive side of the ball is reason to make fans hopeful. It has been the defense that has carried the Browns this year, but knowing that there are young players on the rise on the offense is reason to believe they will continue to improve.
On the defensive side, it was noted that McNeil-Warren got off to a slow start, but his role is continuing to grow. Edwards highlighted his versatility as well as his nose for the ball. Again, a reason for optimism moving forward.
Before the season began, many draft analysts believed that the Browns had the best draft class in the NFL. So far to this point in the season, that has proven to be true.
